Stalinism
Stalin was a Russian nationalist who was trained as an Orthodox seminarian, and heald the position of general secretary.
Joseph stalin was one of those who supported the idea of socialism in one country, as opposed to attempting to indite international socialism.
He originally wasn't very popular or important among the Bolshevik Elite, or really anyone.
Through perseverance and a tad bit of murder, he ended up without challenge on his course to dictatorship in 1929.
One of his first actions was replacing Lenin's NEP with his own plan called called The First Five Year Plan.
The goal of this plan was to quickly convert the Soviet Union from a simple agricultural country to one of the leading industrial powers.
This meant setting new bars for productivity in all aspects of Russia's industry, but focused mainly on steel and machinery as opposed to consumer goods.
Stalin gathered the resources to do this with the help of the Central state planning agency, the Gosplan, and encouraged help by stressing that they were "50 to 100 years behind advanced countries." and they would "either do it, or go under."
A driving force for this industrialization was the collectivization of agriculture, which entailed the creation of shared farming units in which all the farmers shared the profits.
This meant doing away with market choices and private property.
This caused quite a disturbance among the peasants, who reacted by slaughtering their livestock and burning crops. more and more farmers left to the cities, which meant less people to produce food, and more people to take up space in the cities.
Many people starved as a result of this, and finally, in 1931, stalin did away with collectivization.
Despite the ridiculous targets, the soviet union declared the plan successful after only four years.
While the nation had certainly become industrialized, for a long time there were almost no consumer goods to come of it.
While he was successful in his goals, may viewed stalin's actions ruthless, which raised doubts about his power while the Soviets prepared their seventeenth congress in 1934, the self proclaimed "Congress of Victors"
Stalin learned of Plans for creating a more pluralist leadership, and essentially created a civil war amongst the Congress of Victors, which entailed the purging of a large portion of the government, and any one else suspected of treason.
Fascism
Fascism developed as a response to the Great War, and entailed an authoritarian political movement in which the state had absolute power and authority over it's subordinate people.
Fascism was coined by Benito Mussolini, who had instated a fascism in the Italian government in 1922.
Mussolini obliterated strikes, labor unions, and political opposition within Italy.
The Nazi party, or national socialist party, under control of Adolf Hitler, developed it's own notorious variant of fascism.
The Nazis came to power legally in 1929 after a less-legal attempt to gain power in 1923, when Hitler and the other party members attempted to the Democratic Weimar Republic of 1919.
